Plot
In Mexico, a lawyer receives an unexpected offer to help a feared cartel boss retire from his business and disappear forever by becoming the woman he’s always dreamed of being. IMDb editor Arno Kazarian offers sneak peeks at 12 films he’s screening at the 2024 New York Film Festival, including Anora and the dangerous, strangely erotic Misericordia. Comedy, Drama, Action, Thriller, Self-Exploration AND MUSICAL
It balances each genre and gives it enough time so that it doesn’t seem too much. Every acting performance in this movie is outstanding, especially Zoe Saldana in the first half of the movie and Karla Sofía Gascón in the second half of the movie who played two roles in this movie perfectly. Unfortunately, everything related to Selena Gomez in terms of her acting performance and character required more effort.
The other film was a real testament to Zoe Saldana’s performance as it was gorgeous despite the darkness and minimal lighting
Very weak character who only served as a filler to make things more complicated for the main protagonist and the events of the story. Although musicals are not my thing, this movie handles this part in such a unique way that each song comes across well creatively in terms of direction and lyrics. Two songs that really caught my attention touched on a political aspect in Mexico that had such a creative and unique direction.
