Phyllis Smith has come out of retirement to reprise her role as Sadness in Inside Out 2

Plot

A sequel, in which Riley enters puberty and experiences entirely new, more complex emotions as a result. While Riley is trying to adjust to her teenage years, her old emotions are trying to adjust to the possibility of being replaced. She has asked Pixar to find her a recording studio in Missouri, since she has no intention of traveling all the way to Los Angeles just for this. As Riley gets older, her emotions become more complex, and thus new characters (emotions) are introduced.

Are these emotions being suppressed?

But doesn’t this mean that her parents (and potentially other adults) who have matured and developed even more will not only have these emotions in their control rooms, but even more emotions? There is a flash of concern from both parents in the mid-credits scene, but nothing more. Or hidden away like Riley’s nostalgia? This was also the case in the previous film, when the adult control rooms seemed just as developed as the children’s ones and had the same number of emotions.

Maybe we can’t

Although, to be clear, the aforementioned mid-credits scene strongly suggests that Anxiety and the other new emotions tend to stay in place for the five main emotions at the end and only occasionally show up to express their concerns, which explains their complete absence in the first film. Joy: I don’t know how to stop Anxiety. Maybe that’s what happens when you grow up. You feel less joy..

Overall, while Inside Out 2 has a good concept and charming characters, it’s not perfect. Promoted as an hour and a half entertainment event, it does have a problem with the plot.

While the first film was emotional and deeply meaningful, Inside Out 2 lacks a single, overarching message compared to its predecessor

It reintroduces Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear as they journey through the mind of teenage Riley, but it’s not as deep as the first film. While the pacing feels sluggish with large sections where not much of a story happens and viewers are unable to connect with the characters. The humor and warmth aren’t enough to make up for the shoddy plot, although some of the animation and voice acting are excellent. Younger audiences will find it entertaining, but it doesn’t live up to the potential of the first film, which will disappoint some viewers who were hoping for another heartwarming tale.
