Plot
The city of New Rome is faced with a battle between Cesare Catilina, a brilliant artist who advocates a utopian future, and greedy mayor Franklin Cicero. Among them is Julia Cicero, whose loyalties are divided between her father and her lover. Francis Ford Coppola wrote the script in the early 1980s, but the film was partially shelved due to financial debts. Pre-production finally began in 2001, after shooting 30 hours of second-unit footage and table reads with Paul Newman, Uma Thurman, Robert De Niro, James Gandolfini, Nicolas Cage, Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe, Edie Falco, and Kevin Spacey. The project was canceled after the September 11 attacks because a scene in the script (p.

The surveillance footage of Cicero entering the Caesars office is said to be from two different cameras, as suggested by the small text in the upper left corner. For everything that works in Megalopolis, there’s something that doesn’t
It’s the huge swing everyone’s been talking about, and it’s an incredibly interesting mess. Parts of it are very creative and unlike anything else out there, and then there are long stretches that are completely boring. It’s 138 minutes long, but it feels like it’s over three hours long. Whether it’s suitably epic or often boring will probably depend on the viewer. It’s also the kind of movie where I’m not sure overanalyzing helps.
There’s a certain balance between fun and boredom
Coppola tries to say so much in one film, but most of it ends up meaningless. There were a few moments in the movie where I wondered if it was all a joke. It might mean a lot to him, or maybe just part of it, and the rest of the time he’s laughing at us. Somehow I’m disappointed, exhausted, confused, and amazed all at once. Visually striking elements along with visually impressive elements.
I can’t offer any advice to anyone else considering devoting 138 minutes of their limited time to this
This is a movie that movie buffs will argue about and reminisce about, while 99% of the population will continue to live in blissful ignorance of its existence. I can’t quite decide whether I’d be better off being one of the many blessed or the lost 1%. I’m glad I saw it, but I also feel like it was a bit of a waste of time.
